DARKNESS IN THE CITY OF LIGHT

According to this morning’s news, 127 people died and over 200 were injured by gun and bomb attacks at 6 different sites in Paris last night. I feel bad for the victims and their families, as it does whenever there is a mass shooting by anyone for any reason.

What happened in Paris is totally inexcusable and using religion and a foreign war as justification for the slaughter of unarmed innocent combatants is reprehensible

ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attacks and promises more if France doesn’t change its policies. So I guess that I’m expected at this point to demand we close our borders to refugees and I’m ashamed to admit that my first instinct was to agree. But then I read the reports that said the terrorists in the film ISIS sent looked like French citizens, and there’s a good chance they were. And many of the rest were likely in the country illegally.

I’ve been involved in several Canadian Citizenship ceremonies in the past couple of years and met a lot of people who, like when our family became citizens, were looking forward with optimism to their lives as full Canadian citizens. And many, judging by their mode of dress, may have been Moslems.

If I honestly thought that closing our borders was a solution, I’d go for it in a wink. But, if we close our borders to everyone to keep the terrorists out, only the terrorists will get in.
