I went to the Thorold Public Library’s their annual Library Open House to say hello and watch folks enjoyed the gathering, the kids making crafts and telling Santa what they want for Christmas, and most everyone drank hot chocolate and ate cookies. Staff did a great job of putting it together and the kids certainly seemed to be enjoying themselves.
But, while there, we learned something that put a bit of a damper on things. Our bicycle rack was gone! Someone had come in, taken the end pieces off, and made off with the centre part, the part that actually holds the bicycles.
This rack was purchased for the library by the great volunteers that make up the Friends of the Thorold Public Library. This group holds various fundraising events to raise money for the purpose of purchasing things for the library that it can’t afford to spend on themselves. And they do a great job of it. They were the ones who bought the bicycle rack.
While wondering why someone would steal such a thing, especially without the supporting ends, a patron told us that skateboarders take them to use as ‘rails’, on which they slide their boards. In any case, and whoever took our bicycle rack, I would like to offer you a…
