The Thorold and Beaverdams historical Society, who are putting their museum in the Lock 7 Information Centre, have interesting speakers at their monthly meetings, if you like history, of course.
Monday night, however, they had a speaker who would have have fascinated you no matter what your interests.
Adam Shoalts is a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographic Society and a modern, paid explorer. You wouldn’t think to look at him that he was old enough to have done all the things he describes, but he has explored all over the world and has the pictures to prove it (if such a thing can be said with PhotoShop and all). His explorations are largely in Canada’s north but he has explored all over the world, and he generally does it solo.
If you ever get the chance to hear him speak, it’s worth the listen. His stories of his trips and his experiences are fascinating and he tells them with great enthusiasm and flare.
