I went to see the Viking galley at Lock Seven, as did a number of others. Of course, you can’t see anything from the Lock Seven Centre because of the trees, but quite a few were in the bleachers and some of us, having long lenses, we went further down beyond the fence.

Right on time, the galley and another tall ship entered the lock. Slowly we watched the ships rise, their masts reaching ever higher until they reached the top of the lock. And then…

…and then nothing happened. For over a half hour the crowd waited for the ships to leave the lock, but the lock doors remained closed. Tired of waiting in the incredible heat, and with other things to do, I snapped what pictures I could and joined the exodus.
