The August long weekend means Canal Days in Port Colborne so, on Monday, my wife and I journeyed to our neighbouring municipality to listen to some Oldie music.
First up was Tim ‘E’ and the Yes Men, an Elvis Presley tribute group. I’m not really a big fan of Elvis or of Elvis impersonators, but I must say, Tim does a great job of impersonating and his band is quite good. The only thing is that it was hot and humid, which in itself would have been OK, but Tim reminded us after almost every song as he complained about how hot his costume was.
Next was a group we know quite well here, due to their appearances in Thorold over the years. The Beatles tribute group the Caverners did a great job as usual but we didn’t see a lot of the show. About five songs in, the dark clouds which had been threatening for some time opened up and doused the crowd. The Caverners, to their credit, didn’t miss a beat, striking up immediately with “Rain’. I’m not opposed to getting wet, but my wife had had enough and we vacated the concert after a couple of songs.
The music was good and the acts were believable nonetheless and mostly we enjoyed ourselves. Even the rain, which wasn’t even shown as a credible possibility on any of the weather aps, was no big deal. However, quite a few people left when it started, putting just a bit of a “damper” on things.
Next year. I’ll bring an umbrella.
