Who is Tony Vandermaas? Married, the father of two and grandfather of four, I am a retiree from Stelco/Hamilton Steel/U.S. Steel Canada where I served most of my years there as a union steward and health & safety rep., as well as a volunteer to a number of committees. I went back to school as an adult and graduated from Niagara College from Business Administration – Human Resources Management and hold a number of related union and management certificates as well as a Legal Assistant certificate.
Actively involved in federal and provincial politics since I was nine years old, I am former City of Thorold City Councillor; Thorold’s Offical Town Crier since 1999; presently Thorold Public Library Board Trustee and Chair; City of Thorold Parks, Trails and Recreation Committee Chair; City of Thorold Tourism Advisory Committee Member; City of Thorold Lake Gibson Corridor Preservation Task Force Chair; and the Thorold War of 1812 Committee as Event Coordinator. I was a political columnist for the former Thorold News and the former Thorold Voice and reporter, photographer and columnist for the former on-line publication, WhatsOnThorold.com. There’s more, but that’s more than enough.
I’m the author of several novels: a trilogy of War of 1812 historical novels – A Question of Loyalty (2007), In the Name of Honour (2012), and Tireless Vengeance (2013); plus, coming soon, a novel of starting over – Dreams of Utopia.
